Today we have a special guest writer, Erin, sharing with us about the magic of a great homestead community. Erin and her husband Mike are the creative homesteaders behind the Homesteader Hub, a place for homesteaders to connect and build community.
Homesteading is an amazing lifestyle, full of personal victories and family bonding. It can also be overwhelming, isolating and lonely, especially if you’ve chosen a rural area for your homestead. Which is why it’s so valuable to find other like-minded people in your regional area. It’s awe inspiring what a community of like-minded people can accomplish together, especially compared to how long it would take you alone!
That said, it can be easier said than done to find a local community of like minded homestead friends. Sure, there are more online homestead forums and Facebook groups than you can shake a fist at but it’s not always easy to determine who is close to where you live. Which is why my husband and I are launching a homestead focused Kickstarter project called Homesteader Hub.
We are experienced web developers and homesteaders — and can’t wait to create a super user friendly site that you can pop onto from your phone, tablet or computer, find people near you and then pop back off to go milk that goat, pick those tomatoes or just enjoy a quiet moment. There are enough time wasters online, we don’t want to add another.
But what we DO need is a way to bring this amazing nationwide homesteading community together. And that is how the Homesteader Hub idea was born. Together we can do great things!
Why is a Local Community so Magical?
Don’t take it just from me! We took a break from helping out during a recent crop mob and interviewed Hari from Tiny House Family about the local community she has been part of for the last two years.
They built up this amazing group of people by connecting networks together and finding other like-minded people. Strangers became friends, and they now all have a personal attachment to each other’s homesteads. It gave me goosebumps to see the sharing of knowledge and man power. And BOY did we get a lot done that day. It was seriously impressive!!
Sounds great, but don’t know anyone local?
Help us share the Homesteader Hub project far and wide by first sharing this post with friends, family and fellow homesteaders. Then visit the Homesteader Hub kickstarter project page. Even if you contribute just $2 towards building the site, you’re helping us create a collaborative online space where we can ALL build our own local “hubs” of like-minded homesteaders. The sky is the limit! Learn more about the Homesteader Hub project here.
And a big thank you to Annie for sharing your online community with us! We absolutely love what you’re doing here.
