Christmas on the Homestead
Christmas day on our little homestead in Montana dawned cold, crisp and sunny. We woke up to a chilly 11 degrees outside. We were pretty excited when it warmed up to 40 degrees by the afternoon so we could take a walk outside on our property. Decked out in our winter boots and warm coats, Little A and I set off to explore our winter wonderland.
Our first stop was to go see the Canadian Geese that were feasting in the field across the road all day. Their vocal honking filled the air and could even be heard inside our house.
These beautiful frost crystals caught my eye as we walked past a weathered tree stump. They are so tiny, delicate and intricate. Simply beautiful! 
As we walked through the pasture, we noticed small frozen puddles filled with what I like to call “frost flowers”. The stems of dead grasses poking out of the frozen puddles were covered with tiny frost crystals that looked like beautiful winter flowers (my husband said the official word for these crystals are hoar frost but I prefer frost flowers!)
When our walk took us around the barn and facing west, we were graced with this beautiful scene in the sky. 
It was a lovely walk and a memorable part of our first Christmas on our new homestead.
