Dill is one of the herbs I love to plant in my garden. I love to use it when canning dill pickles and dilly beans. We also use it in homemade salad dressing and when baking fish. Last year my dill bolted and dried up by mid summer. I was disappointed since I hadn’t harvested any because I was too busy packing for the move to our new homestead.

I loved the featured post for this week: Grow and Use Dill in the Herb Garden from Untrained Housewife. This great post explained why my dill likely bolted so early last year. I learned a few things from reading this so hopefully this year when I plant dill we’ll actually be able to harvest some. This post has some great tips on how to grow and harvest dill so be sure to check it out!

Hello I'm Annie and welcome to our blog!

I was raised in an old farmhouse in the country and taught by three generations of women in my family to cook from scratch, can and preserve food, nurture plants to grow, craft with my hands, and live a simple, meaningful life. Now I'm teaching my own children these skills on our little homestead in Montana. I'm sharing these vintage skills here so you too can live a simple, more connected homemade life- one canning jar at a time! Read more...
