We have been busy, busy, busy on our homestead now that spring has arrived! There are so many projects in the works right now and all of them seem to need finishing as soon as possible. A lot of times it feels like there isn’t enough time in the day! In the last week on our homestead we:

  • Staked out our new 7200 square foot garden
  • Tilled up garden beds for our berry patch
  • Planted about 50 raspberry canes
  • Planted over 30 strawberry plants
  • Put the final touches on our new greenhouse
  • Built one bee box and working on a second (our bees are to arrive in a few weeks!)
  • Raked our back pasture and fixed fence in preparation for seeding buckwheat
  • Planted 8 free shrubs (thanks to Craigslist!) along our front fence line in hopes of blocking some of the dust from the dirt road

We still have a gazillion things to do. On tomorrow’s agenda is heading out to the greenhouse to finally get some seeds planted. We’re a bit behind the schedule we wanted but still early enough to get a good month and a half or more of growth started before our last frost typically arrives.

We’d love to hear what you’ve been doing on your homestead or out in your garden! Share your posts below in our weekly Green Thumb Thursday link-up.

Hello I'm Annie and welcome to our blog!

I was raised in an old farmhouse in the country and taught by three generations of women in my family to cook from scratch, can and preserve food, nurture plants to grow, craft with my hands, and live a simple, meaningful life. Now I'm teaching my own children these skills on our little homestead in Montana. I'm sharing these vintage skills here so you too can live a simple, more connected homemade life- one canning jar at a time! Read more...
