Over the years, many of the folks on my holiday gift list received a package of homemade lavender bath salts. Bath salts are low cost, natural and easy to make. They are a wonderful gift to give your family and friends so they can treat themselves to a luxurious, skin softening bath with the relaxing scent of lavender.jar of natural homemade lavender bath salts Montana Homesteader

All the ingredients in this bath salt recipe are natural and dissolve in warm bath water for a wonderful relaxing soak. Epsom salt is the main ingredient in this bath salt recipe and can help to soothe achy muscles and soften skin. I love how Epsom salt leaves my skin feeling soft and nourished instead of dried out. The Lavender essential oil is used for the relaxing scent, although you could use a different scent of essential oil if you prefer.

Homemade Lavender Bath Salts Recipe

This recipe makes 12 cups of bath salts.

Ingredients:

Directions:

Step 1: In a large bowl, mix the Epsom salt, baking soda and sea salt. Sprinkle the lavender essential oil evenly over the bath salts and mix well until the scent is evenly distributed.

Step 2: Store the bath salts in an air tight jar or bag. I love to store homemade bath salts in antique glass canning jars.

To use the homemade bath salts, pour one cup of bath salts into the bathtub and dissolve in  the warm bath water. The scented lavender bath salts are best used within a year, after that they start to lose their scent. These bath salts also make a wonderful foot soak. I was gifted one of these foot massagers and I absolutely love to soak my feet in it with some homemade lavender bath salts after a long day of standing on my feet canning and preserving in the kitchen!

When I give homemade lavender bath salts as a gift, I like to package them in a decorative glass jar with a ribbon or twine bow. We have family who live out of state that we mail gifts to and for those I package the bath salts in a plastic bag tied closed with a decorative ribbon to dress it up a bit.
Make sure you keep some bath salts for yourself so you can enjoy a relaxing soak after you finish making this handmade gift for your family and friends!
