We have exciting news on the homestead! In April, our new baby homesteader arrived and since then all our time and energy has been focused on caring for this amazing new life joining our family. I wanted to share this news with you all well over a month ago, but this sweet babe has kept us so busy that I’ve not been able to be online much. The only reason I’ve been able to grab a few minutes to write this morning is because I woke up extra early (amazingly feeling slightly rested which rarely happens these days!) and our little baby homesteader is actually sleeping in for once!

We had an amazing birth experience which I hope to share in a bit more detail with you all one day. In a nutshell, we had a long labor but it resulted in our goal of having a VBAC (vaginal birth after a cesarean). We feel so blessed that by chance we had the most amazing birth support team to help us welcome our sweet little babe to this world. He arrived a whopping 9lbs 5 ounces! Both he and mama are healthy and we’re enjoying getting to know this sweet new addition to our family.

We’re taking a short “maternity break” from the blog and will be back soon. So for all of you who have sent us emails or messages on Facebook, we will get back to you eventually but please be patient with us!

    Congrats on your new baby!

I sincerely hope you enjoy him and all your children as much as I’ve enjoyed mine.

Though mine are adults now and wonderful men, looking back on the memories is one of my happiest things.

Congratulations on your new little homesteader! I read your article on dandelion salve and started infusing my oil a few weeks ago. I let my oil infuse in natural sunlight. After reading your instructions I realize I should have put it out of the sun. Should I start over and toss the oil I already infused?

All persons receiving the standard homestead exemption who continue to qualify for that exemption automatically qualify to receive the additional homestead exemption. No further application is necessary. The additional $25,000 exemption applies to taxable values greater than $50,000 and up to $75,000, for all tax levies except school district levies.

Also, are zoning laws tough out there?

I am a newby to your blog and have enjoyed it, so! We are hoping to start bees on our “homestead” in the Flathead this spring. I would love info on Nuc’s and where to purchase if you have any or additional advise. Thanks!

Hello I'm Annie and welcome to our blog!

I was raised in an old farmhouse in the country and taught by three generations of women in my family to cook from scratch, can and preserve food, nurture plants to grow, craft with my hands, and live a simple, meaningful life. Now I'm teaching my own children these skills on our little homestead in Montana. I'm sharing these vintage skills here so you too can live a simple, more connected homemade life- one canning jar at a time! Read more...
